Type 312 Preamp
There's nothing I love more than building electronic equipment and sniffing solder fumes. This is my latest creation... a Type 312 Preamp. It's based on the famous API 312 preamp; in fact, it's a direct clone with a few added bells and whistles (like relay switching and a line input option).
Some more details:
- Jensen JT-110K-HPC input transformers
- Profile 4804 output transformers
- API 2520 opamp (Huntington, NY) on channel #1
- Melcor 1731 clone on channel #2
This preamp sounds amazing. I particularly love them on drums and other percussion.
Known problems: There's a slight instability with the Melcor opamp at low gain settings. I have a feeling it's a problem with the feedback cap in the opamp, but it's minor because I usually use them at higher gain settings. I'll investiage this further.
